Emberfall Town Map

I created an immersive game map called Emberfall Town, capturing the essence of a burning ember with an autumn-like atmosphere. This small castle-like island town is surrounded by a serene lake and a man-made water boundary. For this project, I used Blender for 3D modeling and the Substance Suite for designing assets, which were then baked into low-poly models. Final touches, including lighting and FX, were meticulously set up in Unreal Engine, making Emberfall Town ready for adventure.

Concept and Design

Theme: The map features a small castle-like island town surrounded by a serene lake and man-made water boundaries, reflecting an enchanted autumnal environment.
Art Style: A blend of stylized and realistic elements to achieve a visually captivating yet approachable aesthetic.

3D Modeling

Software: Blender was used to model all the assets, including buildings, foliage, terrain, and props.
Optimization: Each asset was optimized for performance by baking high-poly models into low-poly versions, ensuring smooth gameplay without sacrificing visual quality.

Texture and Material Creation

Substance Suite: Utilized for creating detailed textures and materials. This involved:
Substance Painter: For painting and detailing textures, including weathering effects, surface imperfections, and detailed color maps.
Substance Designer: For procedural texture creation, allowing for scalable and versatile material designs.

Lighting and FX

Unreal Engine: The final stage involved importing all assets into Unreal Engine, where lighting and special effects were meticulously set up:
Dynamic Lighting: Implemented to create realistic shadows and highlights, enhancing the autumnal, ember-like atmosphere.
Particle Systems: Used to add effects such as falling leaves, fireflies, and ambient smoke, enriching the immersive experience.

Level Design

Terrain Sculpting: The terrain was carefully sculpted to create naturalistic landscapes, including hills, valleys, and water bodies.
Water Simulation: Implemented realistic water effects for the lake and man-made boundaries.
World Composition: The map was divided into manageable chunks to optimize performance and ensure seamless loading during gameplay.

Additional Features

Interactive Elements: Included various interactable objects to enhance player engagement.
Sound Design: Ambient sounds were integrated to complement the visual elements, creating a cohesive and immersive environment.

With these detailed technical elements, Emberfall Town stands ready as a visually stunning and engaging game map, suitable for any portfolio.
